A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter in connection with the traffic death of a pedestrian walking on the shoulder of the roadway, authorities said Monday.
Fullerton police said the body of Alexander J. Damo, 37, was found along Beach Boulevard near Rosecrans Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy on routine patrol.
The deputy spotted an umbrella, shoes and other debris in the road, then noticed that a pickup truck parked a short distance ahead had been heavily damaged, Fullerton Police Officer Wayne Dale said.
The deputy stopped to investigate, and a short time later, pickup truck driver Richard R. Ruder of Buena Park was taken into custody, police said.
Fullerton police said Damo had been walking home from a restaurant along the northbound shoulder of Beach Boulevard when he was hit.
Ruder was booked at the city jail, and was released Monday in lieu of $25,000 bail, police said.
