Joseph Jimenez has agreed to step down as Tulare County’s chief probation officer on March 1. It was the latest move in a series since the county’s Superior Court judges announced in November that they were firing Jimenez, the first Latino to be appointed chief probation officer of a California county. But he remained on the job without explanation. However, he formally resigned Friday, effective March 1, county spokeswoman Rhonda Sjostrom said. Jimenez, who has held the post since 1977, reportedly had alienated the judges who hired him and members of the Board of Supervisors who approved the Probation Department’s budget. There were allegations that he did not manage the department well.
