Talks aimed at averting a midnight walkout at Yale University resumed Sunday, with school negotiators preparing a response to sweeping reductions in economic demands by the Ivy League school’s two unions representing 3,500 workers. A strike today would close many student dining halls and curtail building maintenance at the New Haven, Conn., school. Some faculty members have indicated they would move classes off campus to avoid crossing picket lines. Union representatives were considering a revised economic package that offers average wage increases of 5.5% in each of the four years for clerical and technical workers, and 5.5% for maintenance and service workers. The previous offer was about 5% in each of three years for both unions.
