Don’t those Chicago politicians know that they should have waited until Feb. 14 to commit the Santa Monica Mountains park massacre?
Don’t they know that “deficit reduction” is a feeble excuse for reducing park funding for land acquisition to so small a figure that they are simply giving developers the green light?
Don’t Reps. Yates and Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.) know that an overcrowded inner city costs more in urban problems when there are no greenbelts and when provisions for open space are inadequate?
The behavior of Dunne and Yates and Rostenkowski reminds us that in Chicago and in Washington, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
