College Highlights : Moorpark Women Sew Up WSC Title

Moorpark clinched the Western State Conference women’s basketball title with a 73-68 win at Santa Monica on Thursday night.
In the first half, sophomore guard Karina Hardman scored 21 of the Raiders’ 36 points. In the second half, however, it was Michele Brown who responded with 18 points for Moorpark (20-10, 12-0 in conference play). Hardman scored 31 points and Brown had 24.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Santa Monica 83, Moorpark 69--Moorpark blew a 38-31 halftime lead as Santa Monica shot 75% from the field in the second half of the Western State Conference game at Moorpark.
Von Shuler scored 14 points for Santa Monica (9-3). Tom Neumayr led Moorpark (14-13, 4-8) with 22 points.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pierce 9, Santa Monica 0--Host school Pierce (3-0) remained undefeated after two Western State Conference matches.
Bill Kearsley, Sang Kim, Mauricio Quiroga, Jonathan Holiday, Tony Cohen and Kent Tinsley all won singles matches.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal Poly Pomona 6, CS Northridge 3--The teams split six singles matches, but Pomona swept three doubles matches in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. match.
Pierce 5 1/2, Santa Monica 3 1/2-Jenny Chapman and Denise Cass easily won singles matches and teamed to win a doubles match for Pierce.
