A former Beijing art school model became mentally disturbed when members of her village accused her of prostitution because she had worked in the nude, according to the China Youth News. The report said Chen Suhua, 19, was driven mad by people in her eastern China village who gathered at her home and yelled that working as a nude model was the same as selling her body as a prostitute. Chen modeled for the Nanjing Academy of Fine Arts in 1985 and 1986, then returned to her village after being hospitalized with encephalitis and mental exhaustion. Since the report Chen has received support from doctors, who have offered free treatment, and at least one job offer.
