Andre Dawson of the Chicago Cubs, the National League’s most valuable player in 1987, was honored by his alma mater, Florida A&M;, where he starred for three seasons.
Dawson enrolled there in 1972, after graduating from Miami Southwest High School, and made the baseball team as a walk-on freshman.
“My three years at (Florida A&M;) paved the way for my future,” Dawson said. “I’ve said all along, if I had to do it all over, I’d do it the same way.”
