Ronald L. Derry has been named president, chief executive and a director of Symbolics Inc. Derry previously was vice president-operations of the Cambridge, Mass., company. Russell Noftsker, meanwhile, who had previously resigned as chief executive, resigned as chairman and as a director.

Derry, who has been with the company since 1982, will serve as president and chief executive until the directors complete a search for someone to fill the positions permanently. Derry will also continue in his current role as vice president-operations.
