Westlake 5, Crespi 1--Westlake snapped a 1-1 tie with a four-run rally in the sixth inning to advance to the second round of the El Segundo tournament.
Craig Cooper and Chuck Foster each had two hits for the Warriors. Foster also stole home on a double steal, one of Westlake’s seven stolen bases.
Alemany 6, Ventura 0--Greg Biley had 4 of Alemany’s 11 hits, knocked in 2 runs and stole 2 bases, and Brian Rosselli threw a three-hitter in the first-round game of the Westside tournament. Biley singled home a run in the third and smacked a run-scoring double in the fourth.
El Segundo 9, Saugus 4--Saugus took a 2-1 lead into the fifth, but El Segundo capitalized on an error and 2 singles to score 4 runs and take the lead for good in the first-round game of the El Segundo tournament. Roger Salkeld, Saugus’ starting pitcher, struck out 8 in 5 innings and just 3 of the 5 runs he yielded were earned.
Tom Dodson hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to bring Saugus to within 7-3.
Oak Park 4, Villanova 2--Three Oak Park pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter in the Eagles’ opener at Villanova. John Daley started and returned in the sixth inning to pick up the win. Mark Karr pitched the fourth inning in relief and David Stephens pitched the fifth.
The game was called after six innings because of darkness.
