Atari Corp. filed suit against Micron Technology Inc. for allegedly exploiting the shortage of certain crucial computer chips. The suit by the Sunnyvale, Calif., computer and video game maker, charges that Micron of Boise, Ida., initially agreed to sell Atari dynamic random access memory chips, the so-called DRAMs, and then repudiated the contract in the hope of commanding even higher prices. Micron could not be reached for comment. DRAMs are in short supply in part because of the government’s restrictions on low-cost Japanese chip imports. Atari charged that the shortage and resulting high prices means U.S. electronics makers will be less able to compete with foreign computer products.
