Mater Dei First in Initial Poll

Mater Dei High School earned the top spot in the first Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. baseball poll.

The Monarchs, who are off to a 6-0 start, swept four games in the Newport Elks tournament last week. Mater Dei, which finished 24-2 last season, scored 52 runs in winning the tournament title.
