Workers’ Compensation System and Disability Claims for Stress
- Share via
The purpose of workers’ compensation insurance is to put a cap on the liability of employers for work-related injuries. If stress injuries are no longer compensable under workers’ compensation, then employees who feel victimized would be free to sue their former bosses for unlimited damages (i.e., million-dollar lawsuits), thereby adding untold billions to the cost of doing business in California.
The current system prevents most employees from taking such action. Skyrocketing premiums affect us all, but our state legislators should examine the consequences of “reform” before they go full-speed ahead.
