Iraq said it fired three missiles into Iranian cities in retaliation for two Iranian missiles that hit Baghdad the night before. The official Iraqi news agency said the missiles hit Tehran, the central city of Esfahan and Qom, seat of Iran’s Shia Muslim religious hierarchy. Dispatches from Iran’s official news agency said four civilians were killed and 20 wounded by the missile strikes and air raids on the western Iranian cities of Dezful and Hamadan. The Iraqi news agency said “many civilians were killed and wounded” when the two Iranian missiles slammed into Baghdad.
