‘The Oberwald Mystery’
Italy, 1980, 129 minutes, 8 p.m. Michelangelo Antonioni’s version of Jean Cocteau’s “The Eagle Has Two Heads”: a weird mix of the avant-garde and the old-fashioned. The Sturm und Drang of the story--doomed revolutionary and aristocrat lovers trapped in a palace--is balanced by startling video color effects emotionally altering or distorting each scene. It’s a daring film by a brilliant colorist and mood-spinner.
RECOMMENDED.
