Local News in Brief : Hearing on Incorporation
- Share via
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) has scheduled a July 13 public hearing on the proposed incorporation of Diamond Bar, a move applauded by cityhood backers.
Cityhood proponents had expressed concern in recent weeks that their application would not be processed in time to qualify an incorporation measure for the November ballot. On Tuesday, however, members of the Incorporation ’88 Committee said they now believe they will be able to get approval from LAFCO and the county Board of Supervisors by the Aug. 11 filing deadline.
“As long as there aren’t any glitches, we should make it,” said Gary Werner, chairman of the committee.
But Michi Takahashi, an administrative assistant with LAFCO, said there is no guarantee that the application will be processed in time to make the November ballot. “We can’t anticipate what the commission is going to do,” Takahashi said. “You can’t expect them to rush it through just to make an election date.”
