Herlinda Quintero Jackson of Alhambra has been named “59th District Woman of the Year” by Assemblyman Charles Calderon. Jackson established the San Gabriel Valley After-Hours Crisis Intervention Program and has worked with the Mexican American Nursing Recruitment Program, the East Los Angeles Health Task Force, the Montebello Community Hotline and the Los Angeles County Committee on Rape and Women’s Rights. Jackson received a nursing degree from Cal State L.A. and a graduate degree in public administration from USC.

Marvin Malecha, dean of the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona, has been elected vice president and president-elect of the Assn. of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. Malecha received an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and a graduate degree from Harvard University. Malecha is a member of the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles chapter. The association was founded in 1912 to enhance the quality of architectural education.

Michael E. Hanson has been appointed executive director of St. Luke Medical Center. Hanson was associate executive director of the medical center. He previously served as chief operating officer at the Armed Forces Hospital in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Hanson lives in Pasadena.

The Rev. John M. Perkins of the Harambee Christian Family Center in Pasadena has been awarded the Agustin Turner Christian Leadership Award by the Pasadena Metropolitan YMCA. Perkins received the award for his leadership and service.

Ray Ball, Irene Churchward and Roy Paul have been selected by County Supervisor Pete Schabarum to serve on the Los Angeles County Task Force to Promote Self-Esteem and Personal and Social Responsibility.

Ball, of Claremont, is a self-employed lighting consultant. He also serves on the county Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission.

Churchward, of Whittier, is executive director of Project Info and served as a coordinator for the Early Childhood Education Program at East Whittier School District.

Paul, a Downey city councilman, was an officer in the U.S. Navy. He received an undergraduate degree from USC and a law degree from Western State College of Law.

The task force will develop ways to help teen-agers and young adults overcome the problems of drug and alcohol abuse, teen-age pregnancy, child abuse, welfare dependency, crime and violence.

Thomas E. Dougherty has been named administrator of CPC Horizon Hospital in Pomona. Dougherty graduated from Xavier University in Ohio and has worked in health care for 13 years.

Doris Stovall, manager of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, has been elected vice president of the International Assn. of Auditorium Managers, District VII. The district includes California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. The association provides resources and standardizes practices and ethics of auditorium management. Stovall lives in Pasadena.

Betty Sandford has been named a Woman of Achievement by the Arcadia branch of the American Assn. of University Women. Sandford, of Monrovia, is marketing director for Orioxi International, an import-export firm that deals with the People’s Republic of China. She was Western states regional director of the United Nations Children’s Fund. Sandford graduated from UCLA.

Linda Katsouleas has been named city librarian of South Pasadena. Katsouleas was assistant director of library services for the City of Commerce. She has also served as director of volunteer programs for the Los Angeles County Public Library. Katsouleas received a degree in library science from USC. She lives in Alhambra.

Bruce D. Ackerman, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce and Civic Assn. of Pasadena, has been awarded the Russell E. Pettit Memorial Award for the outstanding chamber of commerce executive in California. Ackerman has served as president of the Southern California Assn. of Chamber of Commerce Executives. He lives in Sepulveda.

James D. Farley and Robert Middlekauff have been elected to the Board of Fellows of the Claremont University Center and Graduate School. Farley is vice chairman of Citicorp/Citibank. Farley graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and worked at First National City Bank in Buenos Aires for 13 years.

Middlekauff is director of the Huntington Library. He previously served as dean of social sciences, chairman of the history department, and provost and dean of the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. Middlekauff received an undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Washington, Seattle and a doctorate from Harvard University.

Glenda Griggs Ahhaitty of Hacienda Heights has been reappointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging by County Supervisor Pete Schabarum. Ahhaitty is a senior specialist engineer for McDonnell Douglas and a former community relations administrator for Rockwell International. Ahhaitty is a founding member of American Indian Women on the Move. The commission advises the board on gerontology and geriatrics.
