THE COLLEGES : NCAA Division II Tennis Championships : Walker Wins Twice, Gains Semifinals

Top-seeded Miles Walker of Chapman College won two matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II individual tennis championships at Sonoma State University.
Walker defeated Scott Smith of Ferris State, 7-5, 6-3, in the third round and defeated Robert Green of Rollins, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
Chapman, a senior who is 43-10 this year, will face Yakubyu Suleiman of Hampton in today’s semifinals. Islam Ul-Haq, another Hampton player, will meet George Zink of Southern Illinois Edwardsville in the other semifinal.
In the doubles competition Friday, Walker and Olivier Amerlinck dropped a 7-6, 6-2 second-round decision to Todd Stanley and Jordy Banner of Sacramento State. Chapman’s Paul Charlesworth and Barry Hancock fell to Marco Winter and Dion Joannou of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
