Charles Schwab Corp. of San Francisco, parent of the nation’s largest discount brokerage, announced a companywide plan to cut operating costs by 10%, in response to reduced stock trading volumes industrywide. . . Quaker State Corp. said it signed a definitive agreement to sell, for an undisclosed sum, its chain of 102 Arctic Circle restaurants to the Maverick Fund, a Pittsburgh investment fund. . . . The music print division of Columbia Pictures Entertainment Inc., Columbia Pictures Publications, has been acquired by a group led by Boston Ventures Limited Partnership. The new name for the company, based in Miami, will be CPP/Belwin Inc. . . . A U.S. District Judge barred Bank of New York Co. from buying Irving Bank Corp. stock for 10 days pending additional disclosure in the bitter takeover battle . . . New World Entertainment Ltd. extended its ongoing exchange offers, which were previously scheduled to expire at 5 p.m. Wednesday, until 5 p.m. EDT June 9 . . . Assets of the nation’s 429 money market mutual funds decreased $5.04 billion to $268.26 billion for the week ended June 1, the Investment Company Institute reported.
