A Chicago-area physician who won a court battle to keep his hospital position while afflicted with AIDS was reported to have died. Cook County Hospital officials identified him as Dr. Alan Bouffard, 42, head of the neurology clinic and electroencephalographic laboratory. His name was not released during court proceedings that led to a consent decree allowing him to keep full medical privileges. In February, 1987, the Cook County Board voted to deny Bouffard medical privileges at the county hospital out of fear that he might contaminate patients. Bouffard died of AIDS complications May 25, the Chicago Tribune reported.
