An emergency session of the Palestine National Council, the Palestinian parliament-in-exile, has been called to discuss the effects of Jordan’s shedding of responsibility for the Israeli-occupied West Bank, a spokesman said. He said the 450-member council will meet within a month, probably in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. A senior delegation of the Palestine Liberation Organization will leave for Amman, the Jordanian capital, next week, but Chairman Yasser Arafat will not be at its head, he added. Jordan says it will cut off all funds to the West Bank and relinquish all responsibilities for government services.
