Mike Tully, silver medalist in the pole vault in the 1984 Olympic Games, underwent surgery to repair a vertical tear in the upper Achilles’ tendon of his right leg.
Tully, 31, said the surgery was successful, and he expects to resume vaulting in three to six months.
Tully tried to compete in the U.S. Olympic trials last month in Indianapolis, but he was only able to clear an opening height of 17 feet 7 1/2 inches before pain in his leg forced him out of the competition.
