Cox Completes Swim on Soviet Lake

Lynne Cox of Los Alamitos negotiated a 7-mile course in 4 hours, 19 minutes and 18 seconds today to become the first person to swim for a significant distance or length of time in the Soviet Union’s Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest lake. Cox, 31, was cheered onto shore by about 3,000 local citizens at the Siberian village of Listvyanka. Details in Sports.
