Tapio Korjus set a Finnish record in the javelin at Lahti, Finland, with a throw of 283 feet 9 inches, the second best in the world this year, and the third best all-time result with the new javelin.
Only Jan Zelezny of Czechoslovakia has thrown better this year, 285-0. He also holds the world record of 287-7, set last year.
World Champion Seppo Raety did not compete due to a minor injury.
