Burmese security forces shot and killed 12 people, Radio Rangoon reported, as disorder persisted a week after Gen. Saw Maung seized power and moved to crush the opposition. The radio said most of the deaths occurred when security forces fired on looters at warehouses. Rice and other foods are in short supply because of the unrest and general strike by opponents of the military regime. The government says more than 250 people, mostly described as looters, have been killed in the last week.
