Sockers Improve Record to 3-0 With Exhibition Victory Over USIU

The San Diego Sockers defeated U.S. International University, 4-1, in an exhibition soccer game at USIU.

Raffaele Routolo, Zoran Karic and Paul Dougherty each scored a goal for the Sockers, and Keder had an assist. Their fourth goal was an own-goal by USIU.

Damian Glancy, assisted by George Belazo, scored USIU’s goal.

The Sockers are 3-0 in exhibition play--2-0 outdoors, 1-0 indoors. USIU is 4-5.

Brian Ruscio scored with 4 minutes remaining as Nazareth College defeated host Point Loma Nazarene, 1-0, in a nonconference game. Point Loma Nazarene is 7-5-1, Nazareth College 11-3-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Claudia Johnson had 14 kills and service aces, but U.S. International (4-8) was defeated by Northern Illinois, 15-12, 15-13, 17-15, in a nonconference match at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center in La Jolla. Northern Illinois is 9-6.

Connie Navarro had 22 kills, but Cal Baptist College defeated Point Loma Nazarene, 4-15, 15-7, 15-6, 8-15, 15-9, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match. Cal Baptist is 18-7, 9-1 in conference; Point Loma Nazarene is 10-15 and 1-8. Point Loma Nazarene’s home match with Cal Lutheran Saturday has been switched to a noon start.
