Santa Fe Southern Pacific Corp. reported a loss of $646.8 million for the third quarter, contrasted with net income of $123.5 a year ago. Revenue totaled $756 million, a gain of 5%. The Chicago railroad, oil and gas and real estate holding company said the results reflect a $665-million loss from the recent sale of Southern Pacific Transportation Co. to Rio Grande Industries Inc.
