Judge Delays Hearing on Request to Dismiss Charges Against North

WASHINGTON — The judge in the Iran-Contra conspiracy case Friday canceled a Nov. 3 hearing he had scheduled to listen to motions on a request to dismiss charges against former presidential aide Oliver L. North.
U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell gave no reason for canceling the hearing, but he issued the order after both sides had requested delays of various deadlines previously set by the court.
Gesell granted independent counsel Lawrence E. Walsh a brief extension of time to respond to North’s 37 pretrial motions and ordered the defense to advise him by Oct. 28 of how much time it wanted to reply to the prosecution briefs, now due Oct. 26.
