Some Things New and Old

On occasion Jerry Hulse has mentioned or printed a letter recommending the Old Monterey Inn. We want to reconfirm these recommendations. We recently returned from our fourth visit. Each time we find something new or special. This time it was soft challis bathrobes. The elaborate flower-filled gardens and each of the 10 rooms are done to perfection--everything is fresh and beautiful.
Breakfast in the gardens or in a room in front of a fireplace is a special delight. We also go to the inn for relaxation and lots of good reading. The garden offers secluded areas or hammocks. The inn fridge is stocked with complimentary beverages, and yummy cookies await the weary shopper or sightseer. We plan to go back again and again. But do call well in advance for reservations. It fills quickly: Old Monterey Inn, 500 Martin St., Monterey, Calif. 93940, phone (408) 375-8284. Rates are $130 to $195.
