SAN DIEGO — For the first time since Nov. 29, 1987, a Charger home game will be televised live locally.
The approximately 4,000 remaining tickets for Sunday’s 5 p.m. game against the Raiders at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium were bought Thursday by 4 groups--ESPN, KGTV (Channel 10), Cox Cable and Southwestern Cable.
The Chargers thus reached the 59,300 sellout limit by 5 p.m. Thursday--72 hours in advance of kickoff--and received permission to lift the local blackout.
ESPN will televise the game nationally. Local viewers also will be able to watch on Channel 10.
The tickets, which cost approximately $85,000, will be available at San Diego County Placo stores beginning at 2 p.m. today. They will cost a minimum donation to the Children’s Hospital of $5 each, maximum of 4 tickets to a person.
