Fremont General Corp. reported a third-quarter profit of $242,000, contrasted with a loss of $23.2 million a year earlier. The 1988 results included a pretax charge of $7 million relating to a re-evaluation of certain corporate investments plus realized investment losses of $2.1 million. The 1987 third quarter included a $31.4-million loss from discontinued property and casualty lines. Fremont General, based in Santa Monica, is a holding company engaged in insurance and financial services.
