New Place for ‘Gateway’
Regarding the proposed “gateway” to Los Angeles (Sam Hall Kaplan, Aug. 28): Why is it in downtown L.A.? The “gateway” to the United States is in New York Harbor, so the ships bringing immigrants would see it easily.
The “gateway” to the West, the arch in St. Louis, is on the banks of the great river that divides the country. Obviously, the “gateway” to the Pacific should be near the ocean. Why does anyone wish to bring more traffic downtown to see a “gateway?” How about some of the empty land near the west end of Imperial Highway for a “gateway?”
