One man was killed and four people were injured Sunday when their car crashed into a building in Escondido, authorities said. Escondido police said the driver, Gabriel Martinez, 33, was being held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Martinez, whose address was not available, was taken to Palomar Medical Center, along with three unidentified passengers, police said. Their conditions were not available. The identity of the dead man, a passenger who was believed to be in his early 20s, was unknown, said a spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office. He died at the scene, the coroner’s spokesman said. The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. when the car, traveling at high speed, failed to negotiate a curve, police said.
