NAME THAT DUCK
Regarding the Love vs. Groom duck debate (Book Review, Nov. 6), I refer Love to the “Audubon Nature Encyclopedia” (Curtis Books), Vol. 4, pp. 568-569, in which the black duck has the other “common name” of black mallard. Then Love and Groom should go to Vol. 14, pp. 2068-2069, on trout. Brown trout, also called spotted trout, inhabit warm lakes and sluggish rivers, and may be confused with speckled trout because of their markings. The term speckled applies specifically to brook trout, which are rarely found in waters warmer than 50 degrees.
OK, Love and Groom, shake hands.
