And from our “Turnabout Is Quite Cricket” satchel, we learn that a West End revival of Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at the National Theatre won two out of seven awards at the 33rd Evening Standard Drama Awards, handed out Friday. This in a season where two British musicals--”Les Miserables” and “The Phantom of the Opera”--are packing them in at American theaters. Ironically, no best musical award was made, reflecting what has been an exceptionally weak season for musicals in London. Lindsay Duncan, who played Maggie the Cat, and Eric Porter, who portrayed Big Daddy, were named best actress and actor for their performances in the 1955 Williams play set in the deep South.
