Absentee Ballot Security Issue
Security appears to be lax in the county registrar’s office (“Absentee Votes in Unlocked Room Spur Concern,” Nov. 15).
Since the June primary I have been wondering about possible negligent care given ballots. At that time, 25 absentee ballots from this city, which carried “Measure F,” a slow-growth initiative, were missing when a recount was ordered by proponents of the measure.
While this was a small issue in a large election, repercussions are still being felt in this community. And the entire ballot tally procedure was tainted by the experience.
Thanks to The Times’ article, perhaps in future elections instead of guards questioning voters at polling places, we will post them around the registrar’s office to ensure the tally is unquestionable.
