Gardena police said Saturday that they were still seeking the identity of the man who shot University of Colorado football player Eric Hamilton, a former prep star at Gardena’s Serra High School, on Wednesday night in Gardena.
Hamilton, 19, was standing with a companion in a parking lot in front of Nader’s Furniture Store on Van Ness Boulevard when he was shot in the chest. He was reported in satisfactory condition Friday at Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center in Los Angeles.
A redshirt this season as a freshman at Colorado, Hamilton quarterbacked Serra to a 9-2 record last year. He threw for 1,729 yards and was voted the Camino Real League’s most valuable player.
Hamilton was home with his family in Inglewood for the holidays after Colorado lost to Brigham Young, 20-17, in the Freedom Bowl on Dec. 29 at Anaheim Stadium.
His assailant was described as a black male, 5-9 and 180 pounds. Police said Hamilton apparently did not know the gunman.
