Swiss Connection ended Court of Appeal’s four-race winning streak Friday night in the featured race at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Court of Appeal, a 4-year-old mare, was sent off as the 3-2 favorite even though she had been off 3 weeks and was facing older male rivals for the first time. She was unable to match strides with 7-year-old Swiss Connection on the final turn.
Leonard Pineda’s Swiss Connection, trained and driven by Joe Anderson, was parked almost to the half in 58 seconds. Court Of Appeal was fifth early and came out with a strong rush to take the lead, but not the rail, into a 1:27 4/5 three-quarters.
Court Of Appeal finished fourth in 1:59 4/5, only a fifth off her lifetime best.
Swiss Connection, winning for the second time in the meet in 1:58 3/5, paid $5.80.
Original second-place finisher Senor Shiaway broke at the top of the stretch and was disqualified and placed fourth, moving Lakoa up to second and Court Of Appeal to third.
