Culver City : Apartment Parking Change

The Culver City Council this week agreed to require apartment complexes to provide an additional parking space for each two- and three-bedroom apartment.
Councilman Steven Gourley proposed the change, which would require 2 1/2 spaces for each two-bedroom unit and 3 1/2 spaces for each three-bedroom apartment.
Developers Barry Berkow and Joe Mogul, spoke against the changes and urged additional discussion on the issue. They said more developers had attended and participated in discussions at the November meeting when the current parking requirements were adopted.
But Gourley, a slow-growth advocate, said he did not attend the November meeting, and insisted that parking conditions in Culver City have reached an intolerable point.
“Clearly, developers got away with incredibly poor parking planning for years,” he said. “This should have been changed five years ago.”
The council approved Gourley’s request on a 3-2 vote and asked the city attorney to draw up an ordinance for a vote at a future meeting.
