HUNTSVILLE, Tex. — The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. has sent a letter to Sam Houston State officials saying its basketball program is under investigation for recruiting violations, the Amarillo Globe-Times reported today.
The newspaper said the basketball program at the Huntsville school is being investigated for alleged violations under fired Coach Gary Moss.
Moss, former coach at West Texas State at nearby Canyon, was fired after action by the NCAA concerning recruiting violations when Moss was at West Texas. The NCAA also sanctioned Moss although he had already left West Texas.
“This could turn into a full-fledged investigation,” said a Sam Houston State official who asked to remain anonymous. “Right now it mainly deals with one recruit.”
The recruit named in the letter is Carlos Harris, said Moss’ attorney, Philip Russ.
