King Controversy
To view the proposed use of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name for our new convention center simply as a gesture of appeasement toward San Diego’s black community is to miss the point entirely.
Dr. King distinguished himself by championing the legitimate rights of America’s disenfranchised, and the non-violent approach he employed in his fight has become a model for activists on all points along the political spectrum. For these achievements, Dr. King must be remembered as both a black hero and an American hero.
