1 Killed, 1 Injured in Truck Crash

A San Juan Capistrano man was killed and another person injured early Saturday when their pickup crashed on the Santa Ana Freeway at La Paz Road, authorities said.
The Orange County coroner’s office identified the dead driver as John Haynes, 23. A California Highway Patrol dispatcher said that Haynes was heading south on the freeway at 2:30 a.m., going 80 to 85 m.p.h., when he lost control as he tried to change lanes.
The truck veered across the highway and flipped, throwing Haynes onto the pavement, the dispatcher said. Haynes was not wearing his seat belt. The passenger, who was belted in, suffered a broken shoulder and was treated at Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo.
The identity of the injured passenger was not released.
