Simi Valley 4, Esperanza 3 (2 0Ts)--After a 1-1 tie in regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, Simi Valley prevailed on penalty kicks in a Southern Section 4-A semifinal at Esperanza.
Simi Valley (24-2-2) advances to the final against Capistrano Valley, a 7-0 winner over Royal, on Friday.
The shoot-out provided a dramatic finish to a dramatic match. Kim Taketa of Simi Valley tied the score with 45 seconds remaining in regulation, and Esperanza’s leading scorer, Lynn Murray, missed a penalty kick that again could have tied the score, 4-4.
Capistrano Valley 7, Royal 0--Becky Linhart scored three goals and Cindy Attaway added two for second-seeded Capistrano Valley in a Southern Section 4-A semifinal at Capistrano Valley.
South Pasadena 2, Alemany 0--Stacey Hoshimiya and Kristi Currey each scored a goal as the Tigers snapped Alemany’s 12-game win streak in the Southern Section 2-A semifinal game at Alemany.
Chatsworth 4, Palisades 0--Kris Bassler had three goals and an assist in a City Section semifinal at Chatsworth.
Chatsworth (15-0-1) will meet the winner of today’s semifinal between Grant and San Pedro in the City final Saturday.
