Swiss authorities said they have received a formal U.S. request for the extradition of Saudi businessman Adnan Khashoggi, indicted in New York last March on charges of racketeering. If the request is deemed valid, arguments from Khashoggi and his lawyers will be heard, a spokesman for the Swiss Justice Department said. Khashoggi, once reputed to be among the world’s richest men but now in financial trouble, was arrested April 18 in Bern at the request of U.S. officials. The New York indictment accuses him of fronting for then-President Ferdinand E. Marcos and his wife, Imelda, in purchasing art and real estate with money allegedly stolen from the Philippine treasury.
