Artist, Muralist Channing Peake

Channing Peake, a painter and muralist whose work decorates some of Santa Barbara’s best-known public buildings, died Monday in that city after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 78.
Peake’s work can be found in the Santa Barbara Public Library, the Museum of Art, the California Legion of Honor and in San Francisco’s De Young Museum.
His sculpture and paintings have been displayed at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the Pasadena Art Institute, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Seattle and San Diego art museums.
Peake was a founding member of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and a representative to the County Arts Commission.
