Woman Found Stabbed to Death in Apartment

Police responding to calls from concerned friends found a 42-year-old woman stabbed to death in her Canoga Park apartment, authorities said Sunday.
The woman’s body was discovered on the floor of her apartment in the 8700 block of Owensmouth Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles Police Officer David Storker. The woman, identified as Rita Martin, was stabbed several times in the upper body, Storker said.
Several people called police after the woman failed to appear at a friend’s wedding reception Saturday afternoon, Storker said. They told police they had tried unsuccessfully for several hours to reach the woman by phone.
No arrests have been made, Storker said, adding that investigators have not determined a motive for the killing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry, and nothing appeared to be missing from the victim’s apartment.
