Apple Group Rejects Alar Labeling: The Washington Apple Commission has rejected a call to put special labels on boxes of Alar-treated apples. They voted instead to ask growers to approve an emergency assessment of 25 cents a box to pay for at least $2 million in additional advertising to move the remaining 1988 crop. Some 12 million boxes of Washington apples are in storage, about 4.5 million more than last year.
