A ceremony to rededicate McFadden Park as Elden F. Gillespie Park, in honor of the mayor who died on Feb. 6, 1988, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Gillespie had been a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission for 12 years until his appointment to the City Council in 1973. He died at age 71, while mayor, after a long bout with cancer.
In addition, a “Pause for the Pledge” program will also be held as part of the city’s seventh annual Flag Day festivities.
The park is at 9801 McFadden Ave.
