Hurricane Hot Line to Offer Storm Updates

WASHINGTON — The Hurricane Hot Line will resume this year when a storm threatens, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Sunday.
The hot line is a special telephone service providing regular updates of the progress of named tropical storms and hurricanes. It is a taped message and operates only when such a storm is active.
Last year the hot line received more than 100,000 calls during Hurricane Gilbert, and the year before 700,000 calls were recorded when hurricanes Gloria and Elena threatened, officials said.
The hot line number is 1-900-410-NOAA and calls cost 50 cents for the first minute and 45 cents for each additional minute.
