Lightning-Sparked Fire Burns in Methanol Tank

PLAQUEMINE, La. — A 2.5-million-gallon tank of methanol set afire by lightning continued to burn Sunday as officials decided to allow the blaze to burn itself out. Damage at the Ashland Chemical Co. plant appeared to be confined to the tank, and no injuries were reported in the Saturday incident.
