A student at Jefferson High School in Los Angeles was shot and killed outside a campus building Thursday when three men assaulted him and opened fire with a semiautomatic weapon, police said.
Albert Curtis Wright, 18, was walking near the school at 3309 Compton Ave. at 11:15 a.m. when he was approached by three men who suddenly began firing at him, Lt. Vic Ramirez said.
Wright was struck in the face and right leg and died at the scene, police said. The suspects fled on foot, and no one has been arrested.
“It’s a real mystery,” Ramirez said of the shooting. “We’re talking to a lot of people and getting a lot of different versions. There were a lot of people who witnessed it.”
Campus police said the victim had argued with his assailants over gang affiliations.
